A Story Told in Color & Form

This website was created to share a new perspective on abstract expression.

My name is Edgar Velazquez. I was born in Mexico City and currently live in Atlanta, GA.

As a child, I began seeing vivid pictures — beautiful, geometric, colorful forms — all throughout my mind, following a small incident with a basketball that hit me on the back of the head at school. I lost consciousness and fell to the ground for a moment, and when I came back, my eyes were able to see sharp details of the world around me in a way they never had before. That moment gave me a new gift.

The only challenge was learning to replicate what I could see inside my mind. I had an abundance of ideas, minimal formal training, and a deep fear of rejection that held me back for a long time.

What helped was discovering that I could find already-finished works in my head — like having a map to a very difficult place. Once I see the picture, I break it down into basic lines and then build up the colors. It sounds simple, but it can take a very long time — most often because life doesn't always give you the hours you need.

To me, painting is an adventure where I am free to create new worlds and print those visions onto canvas or paper.

Thank you for taking the time to appreciate my art, and for allowing me to share these images with you. Enjoy!
